Asked why gas anaesthesia is not widely used in India
Besides, the veterinarians need to be trained in this discipline. Some animals
may carry harmful germs which can infect people and cause illness which are
known as zoonotic diseases or zoonoses.â€
The physiologist said gas anaesthesia
is rarely used in Indian zoos and veterinarians in the country lack adequate
training in this method. Pukazhenthi, reproductive physiologist at the
institute, said, "Sometimes if you can hold an animal safely, you can do the
diagnostics without using any drugs. He, however, said the veterinarian attending
to the animals is the best judge of his patient’s diagnosis. "Most of the zoos
cannot afford a gas anaesthesia machine. "As zoo keepers, we often face
challenging situations in terms of various zoonotic diseases.
Using gas
anaesthesia will also help us minimise risks to animals,†she said. The training
is being conducted by experts from the Smithsonian Conservation Biology
Institute, Washington, DC. "For instance, in case of bigger animals, using
(inhaled or) gas anaesthesia can be tricky as you should be able to get the
animals’ accurate weight and ready the equipment accordingly to monitor their
movements,†he said.â€
The National Zoological Park, the official name for the
Delhi zoo, recently procured its first gas anaesthesia machine. The training is
being conducted by experts from the Smithsonian Conservation Biology Institute,
Washington, DC. A hand injection might also oppress breathing or blood
circulation of animals,†he said. Gas anaesthesia is primarily used for sedating
cats and dogs, and the training, in which more than 30 vets are participating,
is a step forward towards employing it for wildlife in Indian zoos, Delhi zoo
director Renu Singh said.
The Delhi zoo director said the training will come
handy for the staff in giving best care to the inmates.clinicians. "But it is
crucial for the clinicians to be armed with modern medical paraphernalia,â€
Barthel said. Tony Barthel, Curator, Smithsonian Conservation Biology Institute,
underlined the importance of anaesthesia in animal diagnosis, and how using
injectable drugs for the same purpose could run many risks."Though this
technique is primarily used in cats and dogs field, we are trying to introduce
it to the wildlife in the Indian zoos,†he said. Gas anaesthesia is one such way
of sedating animals by eliminating the need of medical drugs and the numerous
side- effects that come with it."Gas anaesthesia is just another way of sedating
animals, but it is a safer option as injectable drugs may interfere with the
medication an animal is already on.
Asked why gas anaesthesia is not widely used
in India, a Delhi zoo official said the main reason was lack of infrastructure.
The Delhi zoo director said the training will come handy for the staff in giving
best care to the inmates. Budhan S.. Besides ensuring the safety of animals,
Pukazhenthi explained, using an inhaled (gas) anaesthetic device also gives more
flexibility and confidence to the vets.

The days of cheap and cheerful cars
The days of cheap and cheerful cars like the Honda Civic and Toyota Corolla may
be numbered as technology firms Google and Apple muscle into the auto industry
and may change the way people own and dri Jeffrey Tambor as Maura Pfefferman in
a still from the Amazon series Transparent. The days of cheap and cheerful cars
like the Honda Civic and Toyota Corolla may be numbered as technology firms
Google and Apple muscle into the auto industry and may change the way people own
and drive cars.
That’s the warning from Ken Okuyama, high-end Japanese designer
of the Ferrari F60 Enzo and Porsche Boxster, who says game-changing self-drive
technology could threaten Japan’s position as a major car producer."If they
don’t watch out, they risk becoming just suppliers to those (tech) companies,â€
Mr Okuyama told Reuters in an interview at his industrial design studio in the
Japanese capital ahead of this Tokyo Motor Show.
Mr Okuyama, who made his mark at
Italy’s fabled Pininfarina studio and also redesigned the Chevrolet Camaro and
Corvette, says taking on Google and Apple will be the ultimate test for Toyota
and other mainstream automakers. As writing code becomes as vital to car making
as engineering, Japanese automakers are under pressure to show they can compete
with the tech giants.Google’s fleet of self-driving cars includes a modified
version of Toyota’s Lexus sport utility vehicles, in addition to the pod-like,
driverless Google Car prototype, both of which are being road-tested in the
United States. Apple could roll out a self-driving vehicle in 2019.Honda, which
on Tuesday said it was developing a new automatic setting to be used in
congested traffic,

automatically, acknowledged the potential threat from tech firms in the
future.
At this point, whether Google or Apple can come up with a car is
unclear,†said Koichi Fukuo, president of research and development at Honda.
"But they are spending aggressively to recruit people to achieve that and in
that sense.we can’t rule out the possibility they may eventually become a
competitor,†added Mr Fukuo.Market to split As cars become more automated,
Okuyama predicts the auto market over time may split into two camps: vehicles
that simply fulfil public transportation needs such as self-driving taxis
serviced by ride-hailing applications; and super-luxury cars that will be trophy
items for the wealthy. As a result, he says, car ownership will decline,
decreasing demand for affordable, traditional cars like Honda’s hugely popular
Civic models.
Automakers have used existing technology and road infrastructure
to create cars which have an emotional connection with drivers. This is how they
have been adding value to their products,†Okuyama said."But cars have become
commodity products, and, as such, they have to become more functional and even
more affordable,†he said, foreseeing a future where stripped down, minimalist
‘commodity’ cars would share the roads with luxury vehicles. While this market
polarisation could be years away, Mr Okuyama says Japanese automakers must focus
even more on finding ways for cars to benefit from advanced technologies — an
area where they have lagged for years."Self-driving cars will eventually become
commonplace... as a result, carmakers will have to sell not only the hardware,
but also the overall system to run the cars,†he said.

This will provide reassurance to millions of people
Auto industry has been opposing proposal by Niti Aayog to push for full

Wednesday welcomed Prime Minister Narendra Modi&

Manufacturers39;s assurance that conventional engine vehicles and electric
vehicles (EVs) can co-exist in India, saying it would encourage investment and
job creation in future.
Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers President
Rajan Wadhera said the assurance is completely in-line with SIAM's
recommendations that all relevant technologies should co-exist in India's
journey towards sustainable mobility. He also called for a long-term roadmap for
all futuristic technologies, which instils confidence to the industry to get
going.Expressing similar views, TVS Motor Company Chairman Venu Srinivasan said,
"the recent clarification by the Prime Minister that ICE and electric vehicles
will both be encouraged and grow is a strong step to encourage investment and
employment in the automotive sector in India".
This will provide reassurance to
millions of people across the supply chain, ranging from component manufacturers
to original equipment manufacturers (OEMs), dealers, mechanics and associated
people across the country, he added.Srinivasan further said a technology
agnostic approach that encourages all options is very important for a developing
country like India, which is dependent on fossil-based sources for much of its
power."Also with some of the other measures announced towards increasing
liquidity, this clarification will provide the stability to ensure India
continues to remain one of the leading investment destinations in the world," he
said.Toyota Kirloskar Motor Joint Managing Director N Raja said the PM's
statement has given a lot more confidence and clarity and will help the auto
industry in efforts to come out of the ongoing sales slump."Now with this
clarity, people who were thinking of delaying purchases, what we called as fence
sitters, can come forward. It will help in improving the market," he said.In an
interview with a business daily, Modi had asserted that India has a large enough
market and big enough policy space to ensure growth of both internal combustion
engine vehicles and EVs, and there was no need to speculate about the growth of
either of the two.The auto industry has been opposing proposal by Niti Aayog to
push for full conversion to EVs # for ICE three-wheelers by 2023 and
two-wheelers of 150cc and below by 2025, saying a transition was completely
uncalled for and could jeopardise the industry.

We have been doing serious development work
We have been doing serious development work to ensure we can offer a mass

We need to maintain what we already have here
Meeting in Brazil this week, auto executives from Toyota to GM talked up
traditional fuel sources like ethanol, natural gas and diesel, underlining how
South America’s protected auto market is likely to resist a broader global move
toward electric vehicles for years to come.
We need to maintain what we already

Pablo Di Si, said the German automaker was going to import six electric or

Recently, Brazil’s legislature issued a series of tax incentives, dubbed Rota

ethanol research.Even as automakers revamp their global businesses to focus on
electric cars in Europe, North America and Asia, executives who oversee
production in Brazil and Argentina are still prioritizing internal combustion
engines - in part because of subsidies for locally plentiful fuels."In Latin

The use of large windows and frosted glass
The use of large windows and frosted glass will allow you to bring in a lot of
natural light, which can only have a positive effect on the space. Laminate wood
flooring, although less exotic looking that its natural hardwood counterpart is
better for a bathroom because natural hardwood tends to expand and contract more
with temperature and humidity. Clutter not only takes away from the peaceful
look
Farm
duty motors Manufacturers of your bathroom but can also induce anxiety. The
origin of the word spa is said to come from the town of Spa located in Belgium
which has been known since the times of Julius Caesar for its deep soaking baths
and relaxing atmosphere. The vanity is the focal point of a bathroom so it only
makes sense to put forth the extra effort into making it really stand out. The
use of candles is also common in many spas and should be no different in your
bathroom, just make sure they are used safely and are out of the way of anything
flammable. In fact, the modern spa can be considered a direct descendant of the
act of bathing in hot springs by as far back as the Babylonians. Add Quality
Accents To finish the overall look of the space, bring in quality decorative
accents.
If your budget allows for it, you may also consider natural stone
flooring such as marble or travertine. In the rare case that there really is no
limit on your budget, you should consider a natural stone, copper or wood tub.
Get Rid of the Clutter Bathrooms are infamous for being makeshift closets. There
are many important design elements to consider when planning for your bathroom
spa renovation.com has a particularly nice collection of vessel sinks made out
of natural materials that would fit nearly any spa bathroom design. If you go
with natural tub be sure to pair it with a vessel sink from a company like
BathroomVesselSinks.com. If you have dark walls, choose a lighter colored floor
or vice versa. Wood and natural stone including granite, marble and soapstone
are perhaps the most used materials in spa design. Whatever lighting you choose,
be sure to install a dimmer switch so you can adjust the lighting level to
reflect your mood. Some of the most recent advances in shower fixtures include
integrated massage jets, rain shower heads and even steam nozzles. Vanitys made
of wood should feature deep and rich tones, while the countertop should be a
welcoming contrast of lighter tan or very pale green. So, what is to stop you
from recreating this in your own home? Nothing! In creating a bathroom spa the
sky truly is the limit, however most homeowners should be able to create a
relaxing spa like retreat without breaking the bank. If you are more a shower
type of person, never fear, there are plenty of choices available for you as
well. Shades of chocolate, tan and mocha will enhance the furniture and fixtures
in your bathroom while providing depth to the space.
Vessel sinks are
reminiscent of the old countertop wash basins used in the 18th and 19th century.
Be sure to spend a little extra money on quality fixtures and avoid those globe
shaped vanity light bars. These materials along with proper lighting and layout
all contribute to the Zen like atmosphere of your favorite spa. Anyone who
regularly visits a spa will immediately notice the extensive use of this color
palette. Create a Welcoming Floor The floor of your spa bathroom will occupy a
significant portion of your field of view, so be sure to spend the extra time
picking flooring that works with the rest of your motif. Visiting a spa is very
much a sensory experience, the feeling of tranquility and relaxation that one
gets when entering a spa is directly related to the synergy of the atmosphere.
Tubs are available in many different configurations, whether you want something
freestanding and modern, or a tub that is flush mounted into an enclosure there
is certainly something out there for you.com. Candles, rocks, bamboo and clear
glass vases can also lend themselves to giving your bathroom a serene and
peaceful feeling. It might be in your best interest to visit your favorite spa
and take note of what you like and dislike about it, and try to integrate your
favorite elements into your own bathroom. If you are building a new home or plan
on completely demolishing your old bathroom this will obviously be easier to do.
It addition, it will as absorb more water than comparable manufactured flooring
such as laminate. Upgrade Your Lighting Lighting has a big effect on the
atmosphere of your bathroom. A color
Wholesale
brake motors palette of calming, warm neutral colors create the most ideal
atmosphere. The seating area should be large enough for you and your significant
other and will act not only as a decorative element but a functional one as
well. There is a wide variety of furniture, baskets, containers and bathroom
organizers on the market today which will provide ample storage for bathroom and
hygiene related items. It really is the little things that can make or break a
quality spa oriented bathroom design.
Whatever you do, please do not use vinyl
flooring, it may be more cost effective to do so but it definitely will be
reflected in the end result. Choose a Warm Color Scheme This is by far going to
have the greatest impact on the overall look and feel of your spa. To keep the
open feeling of the room, consider using a clear glass shower enclosure with a
swinging glass shower door. Keep an Open Concept and Let Nature In Ensure that
your bathroom is an open, airy space

The challan issued to Nitin Nair. I am waiting for the

if a luxury bus does not have a permit, it cannot ferry passengers from point A
to point B, and charge them for it.
Mr Nair was asked to halt by a traffic
constable who gave him a challan of Rs 2,000 under section 66/192 of the Motor

Last year, New York City said it was moving forward with a federally managed

block of autonomous technology. Companies in New York must have a $5 million

California's autonomous vehicle
testing regulations went into effect in September 2014, but the road to a full
rollout has not always been smooth.. Up to 8,000 vehicles, including taxis,
trucks, cars and buses, are also being outfitted with technology that will let
them communicate with each other.Testing also cannot take place in construction

adhere to a predesignated route shared in advance with the state.Supporters say
it can reduce driver error and make roads safer and more efficient.

Whilst these findings raise an intriguing theory
People who eat food items such as sharks and swordfish - that are very high in
mercury - are at increased risk of developing the incurable disease that takes
away the ability of nerve cells to interact with the body&
disposer
Factory39;s muscles.
Whilst these findings raise an intriguing theory that
eating certain types of fish may be linked to a slightly higher incidence of
ALS, the results would need to be independently verified," said Dr Brian Dickie,
from the Motor Neurone Disease Association in the US.A total of 61 per cent of
people with ALS were in the top 25 per cent of estimated mercury intake,
compared to 44 percent of people who did not have ALS.Sharks and swordfish are
very high in mercury and can cause the neurone disease The mercury in the food
takes away the ability of nerve cells to interact with the body's muscles.
Seafood lovers, take note! Eating fish rich in
mercury may put you at risk of developing motor neurone diseases # such as
amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), scientists have warned. Those in the top 25
per cent for estimated annual mercury intake were at double the risk for ALS
compared to those with lower levels according to the findings. Participants
reported the types of fish they ate and whether they were purchased from stores
or caught during fishing. The exact cause of ALS is unknown but some previous
studies suggest mercury might be a risk factor, researchers said."Mercury may
represent a risk factor for neurodegenerative conditions such as ALS but, if so,
it is a very small risk and certainly not a primary cause of the disease," he
added. As many as 518 people were quizzed on how much fish andseafood they
consumed each year, of which 294 had ALS.
For most people, eating fish is part
of a healthy diet. The levels of mercury found in toenail samples from
participants with ALS were compared to those without ALS. Researchers then
estimated the annual exposure to mercury by looking up the average mercury
levels in the types of fish and the frequency that the participants reported
eating them. Experts are urging people to think carefully about the food they
eat and choose food with lower mercury levels. But questions remain about the
possible impact of mercury in fish," said Elijah Stommel from Dartmouth College
in the US

during the year 1967 had a song Thotta Idam Thulanga Varum Thaai Kulame Varuga
(welcome to the woman with Midas Touch) sung by Sirgazhi Govindharajan.Milestone
films of her film careerDebut in Tamil with Vennira Aadai: Jayalalithaa was
introduced in Tamil by famed filmmaker Sridhar in Vennira Aadai. We were all
looking at the beautiful Jaya ma'am and she gave an expensive gift to the child
and even did a patting gesture to me before departure. She stood by what she
said earlier. Her lively and bubbly performance in the film earned her much
appreciation and also showcased her dancing talent as well. I was a movie buff
and an avid fan of Jayalalithaa and as a child my mother would take me to the
theaters where her films played from early 1970s.When the news of Amma's death
came, I was shattered and could not believe and wished and prayed if any miracle
could bring her back to life.
The hero being a relatively newcomer called Jai
Shankar (who later became a hero to reckon with). The ravishing actress used to
visit my neighbour's house, as she was their first cousin. Kaavalkaran, Kannan
En Kaadhalan, Arasa Kattali , Oli Vilakku to name a few blockbusters. There was
yet another reason for our special attachment to Ammu (as she was called at home
and by her close relatives). The film was a sleeper hit. I was pushed into two
high profile professions which I never enjoyedâ€, she had reportedly
confessed.Mythological stint with Kandhan Karunai: Directed by AP Nagarajan,
known for his mythological movies, Jaya portrayed Valli, wife of Lord Muruga
essayed by Sivakumar.K. Balachander roped her for Major Chandrakanth: During the
same year in 1965, yet another ace filmmaker KB cast her in Major Chandrakanth.
The party cadres later used this as the 'Welcome Song' when she assumed power as
CM of Tamil Nadu. The pair came together in Deiva Magan, Enga Oor Raja, Savaale
Samaali, Sumathi En Sundari, Pattikaada Pattanama, Engirundho Vandhal and Raja
among others.Tryst with Bollywood with Izzat: This 1968 Hindi film was
Jayalalithaa's debut in B'town. She was keen neither on acting nor on entering
politics but she was pushed towards these two high profile professions by her
mother Sandhya and mentor MGR respectively.
She made her debut as the lead
actress in a Kannada film Chinnada Gombe (1964) while still in school at the age
of 15. I got the opportunity to see her at close quarters whenever she attended
function at their residence. The day she patted my cheek and asked my name was
the most memorable one. Acting free of cost for her dance master guru in Annai
Velankanni: Jaya did this devotional film on Annai Velankanni's miracles free of
cost which was directed by her guru choreographer Thangappan.Once again in 1968,
she continued her success streak by acting in 17 movies including few Tollywood
flicks.Jayalalithaa, the uncrowned queen, who ruled the roost in south film
industry during mid-60s and 70s, was considered as one of the most prolific and
versatile actress and a style icon during her period. Late Tamil Nadu Chief
Minister Jayalalithaa. Casting a newcomer to share screen space with iconic MGR
created a huge buzz in the industry then. She played a spunky Adivasi belle,
Jhumki, in love with Dharmendra, who is far above her socially. "I don't enjoy
politics, I am doing my duty to the party, to the people of TN. But Jaya
disproved all misgivings with her youth appeal and fabulous performance
alongside of MGR and people started calling Fearless Nadhiya.
Her body of work
includes 160 films in all south Indian languages: Tamil with the likes of the
iconic MGR, Sivaji, Jai Shankar, Muthuraman, Gemini Ganesan; Telugu with the
legendary NTR and Nageswara Rao; Malayalam and Kannada with Kalayan Kumar, and
even in Hindi with the film Izaat featuring Dharmendra. She broke the record of
other actors by acting in 17 films in the year 1967 alone. Proving her gritty
nature during Ganga Gowri shoot: Known for her boldness, when Jayalalithaa who
always calls herself as a 'Tamil Girl' refused to say that she belonged to
Mysore and was a Kannadiga when Kannada activist named Vattal Nagaraj compelled
to tell when he barged into the sets of Ganga Gowri at Chamundeswari Studio at
Mysore. I went speechless for a while. The solo number Oru Naal Yaaro filmed on
her was a chartbuster one.Aayirathil Oruvan won her the title Fearless Nadhiya:
When MGR was at his peak having completed 80 movies, famous director Panthulu
(whose first directorial venture with MGR) brought Jaya on board opposite the
former..Jayalalithaa was introduced in Tamil by famed filmmaker Sridhar in
Vennira Aadai. Her debut in tinsel town was with an English movie Epistle in
1961. Despite her reluctance, having made a career out of films and politics
later, she took them in her own stride and carved a niche for herself.Later she
was paired opposite Sivaji in many movies, which turned out to be huge
success.Motor Sundaram Pillai with Sivaji Ganesan: Even as she was romancing MGR
on screen, the pretty actress was roped in for a movie with yet another
superstar Sivaji Ganesan for Motor Sundaram Pillai where she essayed the
latter's daughter.
In the same year 1966, she joined hands with yet another
newbie Ravichandran in Kumari Penn. The movie was made in color at a time black
and white films were in vogue. In fact, she came straight from her film Raja's
shoot with a saffron clad saintly looks replete with makeup to attend my
next-door aunt's son's first birthday. Young Jayalalithaa, who was all of 16,
made a lasting impression with her captivating charm and promising performance.
In no time she became the lucky charm of MGR, who later cast her in 28 films and
the pair was considered as a evergreen Jodi
